Staff: Jacqui Jones went to her first Yoga class whilst studying ‘O’ Levels in 1978. She attended various weekly classes, including Viniyoga and Iyengar, for the next 7 years. This was followed with a personal practice combined with reading the classical texts such as The Upanishads and The Bhagavad-Gita. Later she used the asana and pranayama breathing techniques learnt in Yoga whilst in labour with her two daughters. Jacqui has not always been in good health but Yoga has always been her route back to wellbeing. As her daughters began to grow up she studied with the British School of Yoga and gained the BSY Hatha Yoga Teaching Diploma. She began teaching in September 2002, two classes per week at Fitness First in Pontefract. Beginning in Jan 2005 Jacqui then studied the Heart Yoga/ Inner Yoga Trust Foundation Teachers Awareness Programme at Bodywise in the Manchester Buddhist Centre, completing this in March 2006. In August 2005 she began teaching a class at The Glasshoughton Healthy Living Centre as well as teaching at Xercise at Xscape, Castleford. In November 2005 Jacqui was delighted to be accepted onto the British Wheel of Yoga Teacher Diploma course tutored by Di Kendall. This 500 hour course is the industry “gold” standard yoga teaching qualification in the UK and the British Wheel of Yoga is a Sport England recognised national governing body for Yoga in the UK. Jacqui completed this after three and a half years in early 2009 and now is a member of the Register of Exercise Professionals as a Level 3 Yoga Teacher. Jacqui has also worked for Thorpe Park Spa in Leeds and later full time for Yorkshire Yoga and Therapy Centre. The centre is one of four recognised BWY Approved Centres in the U.K. Jacqui appeared on the BBC ‘One Show’ teaching Hot Yoga to Dr Marty Jopson, also she did a demonstration at the ‘Change for Life’ LIVE Exhibition. She has attended workshops with renowned yogis such as TKV Desikachar, Menaka, Mekhala and Kausthub Desikachar, Ranju Roy, Paul Harvey and David Sye. She also holds a St Johns Ambulance First Aid Certificate and BWY Insurance as well as a Disclosure Certificate for working with young people and vulnerable adults.

What’s special about us?

Yoga helps you keep your life in balance and anyone can practice it.  The classes are warm and friendly and you work at your own pace. Yoga is not about twisting yourself into complicated knotted up shapes. Doing the most difficult postures is not the goal. Sometimes NOT doing a posture is the yogic thing to do. You do as much or as little as you feel like on the day. Yoga is never a competitive activity; you must work to your own level of ability and comfort. As long as your alignment is not harming your body it is not important whether or not your pose looks graceful. You have to start from where you are!

Further information

In our hectic world of hassle and stress, Yoga is the perfect antidote.

Life today in the UK is very busy- our working hours are the longest in Europe. We live in one of the most densely populated areas of the world. It’s becoming more and more difficult to achieve quite ordinary things, getting repairs done, travelling to work and doing the weekly shop; these all raise our levels of tension almost without us knowing. Unfortunately we tend to forget about our health whilst we have it. We grab food and eat on the move, we can’t find time to take exercise and without noticing we end up in a state of almost permanent tension. One of the most positive things you can do in your life is to take up yoga. Diffuse that tension before it builds up like steam in a kettle and the lid blows off!

As well as a clear organised mind, Yoga benefits you in many other ways. It leaves you feeling full of energy whilst calm, if practiced regularly it can leave you free of aches and pains. It improves your posture, lengthens your muscles and increases your flexibility making you look slimmer and taller. Yoga raises your awareness of your body, improves your co-ordination and balance and helps you manage stress. It stimulates your immune system, improves your sleep patterns and helps regulate your hormones. Yoga increases muscle tone, improves digestion and aids weight management. Yoga can really make a difference to the quality of your life.
